Infrared Photos by Michel Franks
Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Michel Franks and I have a passion for art and photography. I hope you enjoy looking at my work and will be inspired to own a copy of one of my infrared photos - they are all for sale.
Images have always been important to me. I started out painting and drawing, developing a feel for composition, for 25 years I used these skills in my work as a freelance photographer. I have worked for some of the worlds largest advertising agencies both in the UK and overseas. I have also worked for industrial companies and more recently for the music business.
In 1992 I opted out of the hustle and bustle of London and moved to my present country home in East Sussex, which I share with my wife, my son and my daughter. I now concentrate on the work I enjoy.
Infrared Photography
I was probably one of the first fine art photographers to make regular use infrared film. My infrared photos were shot using early Kodak Ektacrome Infrared film which produced strange colours.
Standard colour film is based upon layers of emulsion sensitive to red, blue and green light. Infrared film responds to an unknown quantity of infrared light which is often linked to the amount of heat present in the subject. There is no speed guide, as there is for standard film, which means that when I take infrared photos I have to rely on experience and experimentation.
My way of using infrared film is to produce false colours which enhance, or make the subject more interesting. Using infrared film in conjunction with filtration makes for exciting colours in subjects, such as horseracing and I have successfully used the technique in the production of some amazing album covers for the music business.
I am always interested in commissions involving infrared photos, so please contact me if you are looking for something different and have a project in mind.
